Why Instagram Ghost Followers Are Bad
You may not always have to buy followers to end up having fake, bot or ghost followers on your Instagram profile. This is because there are many people that run bots with hundreds of accounts, and make them perform actions like following other users, liking their posts and so on.
They do this so that their fake accounts look like real followers to Instagram, or that they start getting follow-backs from people they follow, so that they can build a large follower base across all their fake accounts.
But whatever the reasons may be, you wouldn’t want to have a ton of fake followers on your Instagram profile. So how do you do about removing them?
Should You Remove the Ghost Followers?
Before discussing removing followers we need to figure out whether you should even consider removing them the way many users do.
Basically, they use bots or services (which likely use bots too) that perform certain actions to remove most ghost followers from your profile, but it’s far from a safe approach.
Instagram clearly states in its API Platform Policy that using third-party bots or services that use third-party bots violates their policy.
If you have a lot of real followers on your account and have been working hard on building your follower base, then it’s definitely not a risk you would like to take.
Ways to Safely Get Rid of Ghost Followers
Well, if you have a large follower base and the ghost followers account for a very small proportion of your overall follower base, then you may easily be able to get away with it without doing anything at all.
If you don’t have a large following already, then a great way to get rid of ghost followers can be to use a service that helps you get real Instagram followers, without using any bots. This would not only offset the possible negative effects of having ghost followers on your profile, but also help get a lot of real followers that would actually interact with your content and be interested in your Instagram activity.
Finally, if you don’t want to or can’t do that, you can also manually start blocking ghost followers. Unfortunately, that’s the only way you can make them unfollow your account.
Of course, this can be time-consuming as there may be many ghost followers to remove, and also something you may have to do from time to time as more ghost followers keep cropping up on your profile.
While this method should be fairly safe as you’re not performing any actions that are against Instagram’s policies, but it can’t be told for sure how Instagram would take such mass blocking of accounts.
Buying real followers through a service that’s run by people that actually know their thing and don’t use any kind of bots certainly seems to be the most effective solution to this problem.
